OMG…. doesn’t even begin to describe today on the island of Portofino, Italy. From the moment I got off the tender on the shores of Portofino, I was awestruck with an incredible joy that I felt like passing out or peeing my pants. But neither one of those would have been a good thing to do today… or any day for that matter. So I just began to walk and smile greatly, feel my hair tingle with the excitement adrenaline and snap the shutter of my camera.
As I walked through the stone paved streets I could feel my heart pounding with intense joy and really wished someone was along with me to share this incredible experience. But, that’s not the case and yes… I must continue on anyway. As i slowing climbed up the inclines of the roads, I chose to walk along a stone paved pathway that would lead me into the next town of Santa Margherita about 2 or 3 kilometers away.
Sometimes I took the pathway and sometimes I chose to go along the roadway wich had an incredible view of the bay and the rock studded beaches. The excitement of it all kept my mind from really realizing just how far I was walking and also taking in good data for when I am back here next week to capture stuff i just couldn’t get to today.
When I finally arrived in Santa Margherita I felt like I was in a coastal version of an old time Chicago or something. This town seemed to go on forever with each alley way I came upon i could see yet another street filled with shops and dwellings. Sometimes I would turn down them and eventually I had made so many turns and walked so far that I had no clue where i was because all I could see were more and more classic structures. But eventually I needed to turn back and return to Portofino because the last tender to the ship was at 5:45 and I had to be there to photograph a wine tasting at 4:30a and then the dinner prepared by the celebrity chef Art Smith.
But I shall be back Tuesday for a second shot at getting the shots… And not only am I getting great stock photos for future FineFoodandWineCruise.com media that I produce but also a great deal of Mediterranean flavored images to produce works for the gallery downtown.
