As Christmas 2009 has come to a close, I guess most of us will start to look at what things we want to do differently or have happen in the upcoming year. For me, I typically do not make a bunch of major life changing resolutions, but maybe for a change I should this year. In the past I have usually made resolutions I felt I could surely accomplish. But isn’t that just defeating the purpose of making a resolution. Sounds like it is time to call on Websters…
resolution | rez lo sh n|
noun
- a firm decision to do or not to do something : she kept her resolution not to see Anne any more | a New Year’s resolution.
• a formal expression of opinion or intention agreed on by a legislative body, committee, or other formal meeting, typically after taking a vote : the conference passed two resolutions.
• the quality of being determined or resolute : he handled the last French actions of the war with resolution.
For this particular blog subject I am only going to refer to the first definition that is applicable to the subject. And from the definition given here, I see that a New Years resolution isn’t necissarily something life changing. For example: If a person wanted to eliminate cursing from their vocabulary, or to loose just ten pounds or to start getting up earlier each day. And to the extreme, a person could curse so much during the course of a day that for them to stop would be quite noticeable and thus, life changing. And the same holds true if they wanted to loose 100 pounds or if they were extremely late for work every day. Then those same resolutions could be classified as ‘life changing”.
This brings me back to my own choices as to what my resolutions will be. I think I would at least like to come up with at least one “life changing” resolution that will challenge me to be able to accomplish. No taking the easy way out this year, or at least thats the way I feel right now, but who knows if tomorrow it is a different story. Whats kind of funny about my past resolutions is that I don’t even think I can remember what last years were, I know in years past that ai have sometimes written them down, but as for just last year, i havent a clue what they might have been.
So that will be my mission over the next few days, is to come up with a life changing resolution for 2010.
