The last few months have been real lean times in the art business. In Gatlinburg, October is the biggest month of the year for retailers. Ironically it was another slow month at the Black Bear Art Gallery. After the previous slow months, I have some serious concerns as to if the gallery will stay open. My partner and I have ran out of support money due to other situations that have come up and it seems inevitable that the gallery will close. Although there have been many visitors to the gallery, but the ones that make purchases has been way off the mark needed to make ends meet.
Hopefully after things recover economically in this country I will be able to find an outlet for my works again. Since opening the gallery in May of this year, I have created lots of new works and even bought a new camera. I know from the previous gallery closing when I was downtown, that my motivation to create new works diminished greatly.
If you add in the fact that my car is currently in the garage being repaired and one of my biggest clients in my agency business closed their doors a few weeks ago, then you would think it is all gloom and doom here. But in other areas of my life, I have found some incredibly bright spots to rest in and I also have Jesus to walk with no matter what ends up happening. So if you drop by the gallery and it is closed… you can always visit online and hopefully soon you can find me in a bricks & mortar location again someday.
