Big Wheels Keep On Turnin

Over the past month I have produced a few more new pieces to my “Automotive Collection“. I was in hopes of getting a bunch of stuff ready for the recent Shades of the Past and Grand Fall Rod Run. My plan was to get a vendor booth and hopefully get some of these works into homes and offices across america. But unfortunately my own car that I drive had a stroke and is seized up here at home. So I didn’t get to carry out those grand plans.

Two of the new works I have to share with you today are “Big Wheels Keep On Turnin” and “Woody“. And of course both images are available from the web site “Black Bear Art Gallery“. I have also changed my print options and except for items already in stock, the prints come full size unmounted and unmatted. So now and 11×14 print is just that.. an 11×14 print. And the same for the other print sizes. The stretched canvas prints are still produced in the same way as before. So you get a stretched canvas Giclee that is framed.

See the we site for all the new Automotive Works that I have added to the collection. Also look for some kind of new face lift to the gallery web site sometime in the near future.

Animals in Chrome – “Mack” New Works by Doctorsid

Posted by doctorsid  Published in Automotive Collection, New Art Works

I guess with the Shades of the Past and the Grand Fall Rod Run in the area this month, that my creative efforts have seemed to be originated around automotive stuff.

The fifth new works in my Automotive Collection is of a proud dog in chrome that adorns the hood of a vintage Mack truck. I know I wasn’t the only one that this little canine drew attention from. As I was walking past the truck, there was already a curious onlooker there with her camera capturing images and then looking them over in her cameras LCD window. So I waited around till she was finished and then moved in for my own version of what is to be known as “Mack”

And for those counting… New works number 4 is of a vintage 60′s Studebaker front grill. Named “Golden Arrow“, although not pictured here, you can see it in the online version of the Black Bear Art Gallery and as a Giclee print here in the gallery in Gatlinburg.

Over the last couple of weeks since I acquired my new Nikon D2X, I have captured quite a few new images to be used for new works in the Automotive Collection. As a matter of fact, you could say I am now behind in getting new works completed. And with the Grand Fall Rod Run coming up this weekend in Pigeon Forge, I will probably get a bit further behind in completing new works. But for the most part you will be able to see many of them here in my blog.

Available as a Ltd. Edition Giclee on Canvas in sizes up to 22×28. Also available in a limited number of Giclee Prints on Fine Art Paper. Look for more new pieces to be added to the ?Automotive Collection? soon. Visit the Black Bear Art Gallery at 170 Glades Road, Shop 14, in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

New Automotive Works are the First from the D2X

Posted by doctorsid  Published in Automotive Collection

With the addition of my new Nikon D2X to my artist’s tool box, I have already put out three new works in my Automotive Collection. The first two image are from a 57 Pontiac sitting outside an old metal diner in Sevierville, Tennessee. "Flight Deck" is a mixture of the actual photograph and my "painted over" technique. This hood ornament had so much detail and clarity in the original, that I had to leave it as it was, but I did want something to tone down the windshield and hood.

Also from the other end of this Pontiac comes a work titled "Apollo 57". The tail light section just reminded me of a rocket, that I aptly named it after a series of Rockets from the 60′s. Although there was no mission 57 for the Apollo Program, I added one of my own.

I decided to go with my painted over technique on Apollo 57 since the details of the car especially the chrome were not in pristine condition. So by adding in some brush strokes and softness, I was able to cover up the pits and bad spots in the chrome and the aged plastic of the tail light lens.

On the next day of test shooting with the new D2X I came across several cars that were here for the upcoming "Shades of the Past" weekend in Pigeon Forge. The first works created from that session is from a 49 or so Ford. "Cabernet Sauvignon" aptly named due to its rich burgundy color, was at first painted over once, then again with an optional technique, but in the end the straight up photo image was the result. The details in the chrome and the richness of the burgundy paint was just too incredible to not display as a straight photograph.

After the similar experience with the 57 Pontiac, I think that a lot more of my new works will be back to the basics… straight up photography. This camera is so incredibly sharper than my D100 and certainly any film camera I have ever shot with. I would step out on a ledge and say that this camera produces a sharper image than my old medium format Mamiya 645 I had many years ago.

With the Fall Grand Rod Run Car Show coming up the following weekend, I think I will be able to grab enough new images to last me quite a while. Between that and the Shades of the Past show, I will surely boost the total amount of images in my "Automotive Collection" quite a bit.

More Automotive Works from doctorsid

Posted by doctorsid  Published in Automotive Collection

“The Cockpit“
Still feeling the urge to do more “Automotive Works”, doctorsid has created “The Cockpit“

This vintage 54 or 55 Corvette is the inspiration for this new work. I know that in a previous post there is a note about the technique used in this image. The previous post about “Going Topless” and “Yolos House” were created with a new experimental method. But it seems as though I am still working to perfect the method. With the feel of pastels and the richness of the collection, this image is a sure thing for the auto enthusiast… or anyone for that matter.

Available as a Ltd. Edition Giclee on Canvas in sizes 16×20. Also available in a limited number of Giclee Prints on Fine Art Paper. Look for more new pieces to be added to the “Automotive Collection” soon. Visit the Black Bear Art Gallery at 170 Glades Road, Shop 14, in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

Going Topless & Yolos House – 2 new doctorsid works

Posted by doctorsid  Published in Automotive Collection, New Art Works
This week announces the unveiling of TWO NEW WORKS from “doctorsid” of the Black Bear Art Gallery in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. These two new works are finished in a process doctorsid has not used before in prior works. The overall finish appears like a oil pastel, but still with a unique strangeness to the details that doctorsid is known for. There may be a limited number of works done in this process in the future, but rest assure the production numbers are going to be low just like any other doctorsid print. And that means that only a handfull will be produced.

“Going Topless”
After selling 4 pieces from the Automotive Collection on display at the Black Bear Art Gallery, doctorsid began work on this new piece of a 61 Chevrolet Corvette. Simply named “Going Topless”

Available as a Ltd. Edition Giclee on Canvas in sizes 16×20. Also available in a limited number of Giclee Prints on Fine Art Paper

Look for more new pieces to be added to the “Automotive Collection” soon. Visit the Black Bear Art Gallery at 170 Glades Road, Shop 14, in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

“Yolo’s House”
After seeing the “Colors of Savannah” canvas Giclee and an assortment of prints go out the door, doctorsid has dug into the 35mm slide archives and dug up this pair of houses in Savannah. Simply titled “Yolo’s House” this piece will make a fitting additon to your collection.

Available as a Ltd. Edition Giclee on Canvas in sizes 16×20. Also available in a limited number of Giclee Prints on Fine Art Paper
